General Post Office in Auckland Wellington General Post Office

In November 1912, ornate new General Post Offices designed by Government Architect John Campbell were opened in Auckland (main image, Queen St) and Wellington (Featherston St). Each cost about £100,000, equivalent to more than $15 million in today's money. Wellington’s GPO was demolished in the 1970s, while Auckland’s was incorporated into the new Britomart transport centre in 2006.
