In 1840 more than 500 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document. Ngā Tohu, when complete, will contain a biographical sketch of each signatory.

Te Tītaha signed the Treaty of Waitangi on 4 March 1840 at Karaka Bay, Tāmaki.

Te Tītaha was killed by Hōne Heke Pōkai's forces at the battle of Ōhaeawai on 1 July 1845, during the Northern War.
