Dame Silvia Cartwright unveils new plaques at the rededication of the Palmerston North Cenotaph, 11 am, 13 August 2005.

The two new plaques have been engraved with 84 WWI names not shown on the original main plaque, as well as names from WWII and other conflicts. The two smaller plaques, previously either side of the main list of names, have now been moved to above the stones at the front of the steps.

Pte Digby Beaufort enlisted at Palmerston North in April 1943. He was working in Levin at the time of enlistment. Reported as KIA in Italy 1945 serving with the 25th NZ Battalion, his name is not engraved on any of the two war memorials. And knowing the absolutely tragic circumstances of his death he most certainly deserves to be recorded on either or both memorials.
Is he listed elsewhere?

Greetings,

I am in the throes of writing up on the loss of Pilot Officer Douglas George KING NZ404378 RNZAF lost without trace on the night of 1/2 June 1942.

Did anyone know him or has a photograph of him please. Any information would be worthwhile.

This is not a book but just a write-up in case a family member is around and wants the information. This is the 51st aircraft of my 'Missing NZ Airmen' (M.A-51) series.
