    Te Whiti-o-Rongomai

    Te Whiti was a Taranaki leader and prophet. A resistance movement based at Parihaka was led by him and Tohu Kakahi. Te Whiti was arrested following the infamous raid on Parihaka by Armed Constabulary in 1881.

1845 George Grey arrives in NZ

Grey served two terms as Governor and later one as Premier. His most notable achievement in his first term as Governor (1845–53) was probably his management of the relationship between Crown and Māori.
