Last century, Governors-General used luxuriously appointed, special rail carriages. These carriages were built in 1934 and 1939. In the North Island combination, Their Excellencies had their own state rooms and a spacious lounge. The staff and dining car accommodated the dining saloon, kitchen and additional staff accommodation.
