1922 recession cartoon

1922 recession cartoon

‘No man’s land – New Zealand home front’, New Zealand Free Lance, 15 March 1922.

This blatantly racist cartoon refers to conditions in New Zealand during the 1921–22 economic recession. In 1922 a deputation of returned soldiers called on the Mayor of Wellington to petition the government to halt all Asian immigration and return migrants to their home countries.
