Royal visit to Upper Hutt, 1954

The Royal car is greeted by crowds in Upper Hutt.

Upper Hutt woman Jean Penman took this photo of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh visiting Upper Hutt in January 1954. Here the Royal car is travelling south on Main Road (now Main Street) near the intersection with Logan Street. The buildings in the background, including Duncans Drapery, are just south of Logan Plaza (formerly Maidstone Mall). Mrs Penman was in her early twenties when she took the photo.
