The 1929 team

The Ashburton County Rugby Union teams of 1929 and 1930.

Asburton County changed its name to Mid Canterbury in 1952. The union has never won the Ranfurly Shield. It came close in 1938, losing 20–16 to a strong Southland side which scored a disputed try in the last minute. The two teams met again in 1939 in the last challenge before the Second World War. This time Southland ran away with the match 50–0.
