Battle for Puketutu Pa

Battle for Puketutu Pa

Lieutenant Cyprian Bridge fought at Puketutu in May 1845. His watercolour shows British soldiers and a group of allied Maori attacking Puketutu Pa near Lake Omapere (shown at the right). At the far end of the lakeshore, soldiers scale a slope in order to be at the same level as the pa, which is shown with its wooden palisades in the left middle distance.
