General Piet Joubert and Boer soldiers, 1899

General Petrus (Piet) Joubert's unit of Boer soldiers and their African servant stop for lunch at Newcastle in Natal, 17 October 1899. Several of the soldiers are leaning against Dr Visser's travelling medical wagon. General Joubert is seated in the front row, third from right.

Searching Ancestry. to leave a history for my grandchildren.
My Grandfather, Ernest Albert Robbins born in Therula Australia 1882
enlisted in New Zealand (I think) and fought in the Boer War. He emigrated to Canada
After the war. In 1905.
He married my grandmother 1911. Passed away 1958.
I have a photo of him in uniform and some memorabilia. I would like help to find his service information. I know that he was in a Calvary unit.
Any help would be appreciated.
I am 83 and live in St Catharines, Ontario Canada
