Farewell for the Tunnellers

Farewell for the Tunnellers

Members of the Tunnelling Company, which trained in Auckland, stand at ease outside the city’s town hall on 18 December 1915 during an official farewell. Such events generally occurred in Wellington, the city closest to the country’s main training camps at Trentham and Featherston. The Maori Contingent and its reinforcements also trained in and were farewelled from Auckland. Members of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade and the 18th Reinforcements visited the city to be farewelled at the conclusion of their training in the southern North Island.
