Henry and William Williams demonstrate the power of God's word.
Henry Williams's forceful personality and discipline contributed to his growing mana among Maori. He was not easily intimidated by the threats and actions of utu and muru plundering parties, and by the late 1820s he felt confident enough to intervene in intertribal disputes. This was both a cause and a consequence of his growing mana. As his reputation grew, so did the influence of the mission.
