Hundertwasser koru flag

Hundertwasser koru flag

One of the best known alternate designs for a new New Zealand flag, alongside the silver fern, is the Hundertwasser flag.

The flag was designed by Austrian painter and artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who gifted it to New Zealand in 1983 in appreciation of becoming a citizen. He proposed it as a secondary flag for New Zealand, rather than as a replacement for the existing flag. Hundertwasser died in 2000 and was buried in New Zealand, which he considered his official home.
