Hello again Lynn. I'm coming over to Australia in April/May and will include St Peters Cathedral, Adelaide in my travels where my grandfather, Alexander Gascoyne, had a window commissioned to William Pope, known by the cathedral staff as the "Pope Window' [!] He did indeed paint the stain glass window in Dunedin, commissioned by Sir John Allen, the NZ High Commissioner in London from 1920-26, in memory of his son killed in Gallipoli in 1917, entitled 'War and Peace'. Anything on either the family or professional aspects of Alexander Gascoyne would be much appreciated.

In reply to Lynn West's query. An extraordinary coincidence, in that I am Alexander Gascoyne's grandson, now living in South Africa and currently researching his work. My mother was Dorothy Gascoyne, one of Alexander's three surviving daughters. Perhaps it would make sense if Lynn and I made further contact by email? Jim Parker

Is it possible that you could tell me the name of the person who made this window?
I believe it's possible it might be my great grandfather Alexander Gascoyne as he made another window named War and Peace in All Saints Church, Dunedin around this time. Thank you for your time.
