Detail from the memorial Kauana war memorial after its restoration in 2006.

The Kauana war memorial plaque reads:

The original Kauana War Memorial was erected on the highest point of Fernhill after World War One, where it stood for 20 years before the commencement of the Fernhill Lime Company in 1941 deemed the site potentially too unstable.

The Marble Tablets were then stored in the Kauana Hall until they were incorporated, and updated, on to a new monument after World War Two.

During 1956 work was undertaken to stop subsiding of the monument.

Year of the Veteran funding was granted to give the memorial a complete restoration and site beautification in time for the Anzac service of 2006. This application and co-ordination was undertaken by local Limehills School pupil Logan Beggs, 11, a descendant of W and J Stewart and W Cox, with the assistance of the Kauana Community.
