Manurewa First World War memorial.
On 2 January 1921 Prime Minister William Ferguson Massey unveiled the Manurewa war memorial. The granite obelisk was placed outside the Manurewa school gates on the corner of the Great South and Hill roads. In 1924 a memorial plaque was also placed on one of the gate pillars (in later years plaques commemorating service in the Second World War and later wars were added). The memorial obelisk was moved away from the edge of the road in 1955.
