North East Valley School memorial. Doug Hopkins tells us that the soldier had been taken down many years ago when it was sited as an earthquake risk. But just about 18 months ago on 11 November 2007, it was put back into its rightful place, the top of the War Memorial Gate, with a special re-dedication Service. 'How proud we all were when it the soldier stood on top again!'
