Old coal drill hole

Old coal drill hole

Drilled about 1910, this hole was never sealed. For almost a century it has formed a conduit for acid water to flow upwards to the surface where sulphur is deposited, and there is a distinct smell of hydrogen sulphide. This sulphurous seep can now be seen beside the Charming Creek walkway.
