Nice to see this photograph from my home church in Timaru. Sacred Heart is not a cathedral however. That title is reserved for the 'cathedra' (seat) of a bishop and the Christchurch diocese's bishop is located in Christchurch. Hence the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in ChCh is (was) a cathedral but the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Timaru is not. I wrote the church's centenary history 'Thinking About Heaven', published last year, so I suppose I should know.
