Hi to whom ever made the comment about w.j. davis that lives in Canada. I have info regarding the family you have mentioned. The family name is actually Davies. Yes they were a pioneering family of Tuatapere. Unfortunately none of the family live here anymore. Gwyn Davies did live here for many years but passed away back in the 80's/90's, his wife Pat is still alive and to my knowledge lives in Invercargill. If you ever read this comment and want to contact the family you could try looking up Gwynns son, Barry Davies in Christchurch. His wife Steph is on facebook.

I have a 1945-46 childhood memory of a Gwyn Davis, in South Wales, UK, immediately after WW2. If I recall correctly, my mother told me that he was from Tuatapere and that he was a relative, maybe a cousin. Later, I think she told me that the family had a cinema which closed with the arrival of television. I've been to Auckland a couple of times and I've often recalled the name Tuatapere. It has a nice 'ring' to it. A memorial must very significant in a small community. I thought that maybe Mr.Davis W.D. might have been related. I live in Canada.
