Yes I was a crew member on a Shaw Savill & Albion vessel, after a 5 1/2 week voyage out to Auckland we were sent to anchor & lay there for 11 weeks, until we finally tied up & could get ashore, we were very thirsty & became locals of "Ma Gleasons" hotel pub which was open 7 days a week. the only place to get a beer in the whole country at that time.
