John Backhouse painted this romantic view of Lake Taupō in the 1880s. The scene seems an unlikely one with a clear view of all three main volcanoes – Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngāuruhoe. The Tongariro National Park is a World Heritage Cultural Landscape.
