US Marines arriving at Wellington, 1942

The smiling faces of US marines soon after their arrival in Wellington on 14 June 1942. They are on board the train which is to take them to their camp at Paekākāriki.

Delighted to find New Zealand History sites. My much older brother, Marine Corporal Paul Allen Berryman, not yet 18, arrived in Wellington at end of 1943--summer there? His excitement & adventures were the source of big stories to our father, Hugh, which were later re-told to me.

Alas, Paul was KIA in March 1945 Iwo Jima. Hugh kept all his photographs, souvenirs & their correspondence, including Paul's Liberty Pass for 10 November 1943, reminding him it was only for 24 hrs. Retired, I'm now scanning all these materials for donation to archive of the Nimitz Museum of the Pacific War, World War2 in Fredericksburg Texas.

Again, thanks for the Baseball & Images to add to Paul's & our father's archive.

I'm looking for anyone who would have known of Keith Lane, a marine from Illinois, US in 1942.
