Riverton South African (Boer) War memorial.
The South African War memorial on Palmerston Street in Riverton commemorates Troopers’ D.F McIntosh (Fairfax), F.H Goode (Riverton), Seth Kye (Mossburn), D.B Ferrar (Otautau) and Alexander Scott (Clifton) of the Wallace District.
The stone obelisk is further inscribed with ‘The path to duty was the way to glory,’ and was unveiled by J.C Thomson M.H.R. It cost £105. The money being raised by local subscription and the Riverton Patriotic Committee.
The memorial was designed and erected by the Italian stonemason Carlo Bergamini who was also responsible for South African War memorials at Palmerston, Waimate, Oamaru and Dunedin.
