Tupara Tanara wife was Ngati Pukeko he was probably visiting her relations at the time near Opotiki.

He was also probably hoping to relate mana whenua for his Ngati Tahu, Ngati Whaoa Iwi of the Waiotapu region who were being consumed by intermarriage and dismissed by government negotiations as a subtribe of te Arawa Iwi.

He was survived by Daughter Ramarihi te Miringa Tanara our Tipuna. Tupara is shown overlooking Hobson as he signs the Treaty on the memorial at Rotorua Govt gardens.

They say no Te Arawa Ariki or chief signed the Treaty, this would be correct here as it is supposed IMO that Tupara Tanara may have staunchly afirmed his Tipuna Rangitira as quite distinct and here pre-arrival of the Arawa Waka.
