Wiremu Kīngi Te Puakawe (also spelt Puwhakawe) signed Te Tiriti at Port Nicholson on 29 April 1840. In 1845, he was said to be one of the three leading rangatira at the port of Wellington.
He was one of four sons of Kūrae Puakawe, a rangatira from Wellington who died on 10 February 1840.
