20 May 1941: German transport planes drop paratroops over Heraklion during Battle for Crete.
In April 1941 New Zealand soldiers saw their first action of the war in Greece. They were at first stationed in the mountainous area in the north, but under heavy German attack withdrew to Mount Olympus and from there to Thermopylae Pass.
