This memorial stands in the cemetery that surrounds old St John’s Church. Erected by the government in 1888, it is dedicated to the imperial and colonial troops, and kūpapa – pro-government Māori – who died during the Waikato War and are buried nearby.
This memorial obelisk stands in a council reserve on the corner of Tawhiao Street and McKenna Place in the Waikato town of Te Awamutu. It is known as the Teasdale memorial, a name taken from a nearby settlement scheme that post-dated the New Zealand Wars.
