What happened that day?

What's new on the site

Welcome to NZHistory.net.nz – regular visitors will have noticed some changes about the place.

Apart from the visual design, the major developments are:

  • the organisation of all images, video, sound and interactives into a separate media library – this gives you a whole new way to explore the content of the site
  • information divided into categories (e.g., Second World War, Protest and reform, Pre-1840 contact ), which allow for easier access to related material from any topic page you visit – see Site Quicklinks at bottom of the page to find all these categories
  • new ways to view the calendar of New Zealand history events
  • location views of key events – we've built in Google maps to allow you to see the spot where a historic event happened, e.g., the Tangiwai disaster
  • the incorporation of the treatyofwaitangi.govt.nz website into our new Treaty of Waitangi category.

There are numerous other small changes you will notice as you look around the site and we have plenty more in the pipeline that will be added in the coming weeks, so make sure you check back soon.
