Bennetts War Memorial Oaks

These three oak trees were planted at Bennetts in North Canterbury to commemorate three local men — Gunner Lester Beavan Reid (East), Flying Officer Neil Ralph Blunden (middle), and Driver Alexander Robert Dewar (west) — who died during the Second World War. They are situated across the road from the former Bennetts railway station, which closed in 1959. The trees were planted after the war by local residents and any that died have been replanted. Each tree has a white fence around it with a memorial plaque for each man. There is a stone memorial with information about the men near the middle tree.
