Maungatapere-Whatitiri District war memorial

The Maungatapere-Whatitiri Second World War memorial is a grove of trees planted alongside the Maungatapere hall. The trees are marked by marked by a stone inset with a brass plaque bearing the inscription: “THE / MAUNGATAPERE – WHATITIRI / DISTRICT WAR MEMORIAL / 1939 – 1945 / IN HONOUR OF THOSE WHO SERVED / AND IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING / C. CARTER [&] A. HORNE / W. HAKARIA [&] A. JAMES / J. HODSELL [&] L. MOONEY / A. SMITH”.

The Maungatapere and Whatitiri rolls of honour are housed in the nearby Maungatapere First World War memorial church.
