The Waikieke war memorial is a set of brick memorial gates at the entrance to the local cemetery. On one pillar is a granite tablet dedicated to local men who died in the First World War: H. Babe, G. Walker, D. McConnell, R. Pidgeon and C. Hilford. The other pillar has a tablet dedicated to the men who died in the Second World War: J. Walker, S. Arena, W. Love, C. Daniels, R. Peters and D. Haub.
The locality’s First and Second War rolls of honour, which are displayed in the local hall nearby, list the names and ranks of these and other men from the district who saw active service. The names are also listed in J.T. Stephen, Early Northland: Waikiekie Pioneers, 1860-1900, 1983, p. 98. Both rolls of honour were erected after the Second World War: if there was an earlier First World War roll of honour it must have disappeared when the old hall burnt down in 1929.
