The foundation stone of the Foxton War Memorial Hall was laid on 28 August 1953 and the the hall's opening ceremony was held on 26 October 1954,
A roll of honour displayed in the foyer listed the names of 18 local men who gave their lives in the Second World War. These names were later added to the Foxton First World War memorial (with a further six names being added in 2010).
The names of more than 200 men and women from the district who also enlisted for service during the Second World War are listed on seven wooden memorial tablets displayed in the hall.
The name of Stuart William Ellwood, who was killed on active service in Vietnam on 6 February 1968, has been added to both the roll of honour and the memorial. In 1994 a room in the memorial hall was named the Stuart Ellwood Room. In 2019 a room at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom museum was similarly named.
