Meet the NZHistory.net.nz team

NZHistory.net.nz is produced by a small team within the History Group of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, and draws on the experience and skills of some of New Zealand's leading historians.

  • Imelda Bargas, Historian, is the newest member of the NZHistory.net.nz team.
  • Jamie Mackay, Web Editor, is primarily responsible for the technical development of NZHistory.net.nz content. A trained historian, Jamie worked for five years on the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography project before starting NZHistory.net.nz in 1998.

  • Steve Watters, Historian, co-ordinates The Classroom section of the site, which is aimed at teachers and students from Years 6 to 13. Before joining the History Group, Steve taught history in secondary schools in the Wellington area for a number of years. He is also the main compiler of Today in History.
