Gravestone of Pilot Officer Howard Hill

Gravestone of Pilot Officer Howard Hill

One of 'the Few': the gravestone of 20 year-old Pilot Officer Howard Perry Hill at Hawkinge Cemetery near Folkestone, Kent. Christchurch-born Hill was killed during the Battle of Britain when his Spitfire fighter was shot down on 20 September 1940. He was the victim of one of Germany's leading air aces, Werner Mölders, who was the first pilot in aviation history to achieve 100 aerial combat victories.
