There are memorial gates with plaques outside the Karamea Domain - but this is a memorial that is like a spade that has had both a new handle and a new blade.
Memorial gates were unveiled on 18 April 1926 (and there is a photograph in the Museum). According to local historian Dulcie McNabb the gates and their pillars were damaged by a cattle truck in the early 1950s, and the gates were moved to the local cemetery. New pillars, made of concrete blocks, were later erected. The cast-iron plaques are obviously post WW-2 as they record the names of those killed in both wars.

The Plunket rooms are a Second World War memorial. (An image from April 2011 shows that the blue trim has now been painted red.)
