Thanks Jamie, The JGM Russell mentioned in the Herald article is Jeffery George Mouland Russell, the junior partner of Russell & Son. Thanks for your information. Pam

Hi Pam, I asked Ron Lambert who is the expert on Taranaki memorials about this. He sent me a newspaper report from the Taranaki Herald 16 Sept 1924 that confirms that F Messenger was the architect and the contractors were J.G.M. Russell, J. McCracken and A. Hanley of New Plymouth. The sculptured wreaths were the work of W.F. Short. There is no mention of Mouland in this report, however. Hope this helps, Jamie Mackay

I have been informed by family sources that the New Plymouth Cenotaph was constructed by the firm Russell & Son, Monumental Masons, New Plymouth. Jeffery George Mouland was involved in obtaining the stone that was used and he was the junior partner of the firm. Do you have information that might verify this? I haven't yet been able to source newspaper reports on the 1924 unveiling. Russell & Son built the memorial to Te Whiti at Parihaka Pa and this is well documented in Papers Past. Thank you Pam Childs
