This plan of the Seddonville State Mine, from the 1912 annual report, shows the extent of mine workings soon before the mine closed. The fact that there are several networks of underground workings separated by barren areas indicates that the coal occurred in patches or pods rather than as a continuous seam.
Much of the coal was left in the ground when the mine closed, and was later worked by private mines at times when there was a good market for coal.
