The Taylors Mistake war memorial is dedicated to members of the surf club who died in the First World War. A plaque for members killed in the Second World War  has been added at a later date.

My uncle name was on this memorial his name was Frank Wakefield Upton ,he did own a batch around the rocks before ww11 broke out he was shoot down in Denmark in1942

When I was 14-15 years of age I was told this story by my next door neighbour, his name was Jack Childe as I know ,he served in ww1 , the story as follows both he and his brother were talking about this ww1 jacks brother was a weight lefter ,I can always remember Jack saying I lift more than he can in the first ww1 I was walking a donkey down a hill with a soldier on it the donkey was hit so I picked up the donkey and all , made it down that hill . Has anyone heard of this story .This was told to me about 1960 Regards frank
