After the Second World War, the Te Kauwhata Domain was redeveloped as the Te Kauwhata War Memorial Sports and Recreation Domain, which was formally opened in 1953. Plans to build a war memorial arch at the entrance never came to fruition, and in 1978 the area was renamed the Te Kauwhata Recreational Reserve. On Anzac Day 1989 a memorial stone was dedicated on what once again became known as the Te Kauwhata War Memorial Domain.
The Te Kauwhata Lions Club plans to erect a more substantial ‘all wars’ memorial in the railway reserve at the western entrance to the town.
