Waiuta town

Joseph Divis did not need to move far from home for this study, dominated by the Blackwater mine poppet head and chimney. The steam appears to be issuing from the miners' bathhouse, where on Sundays families from cottages without running water could have hot showers. Those in the modern management houses in front of the mine enjoyed more in the way of ‘mod cons’. All the buildings in this view have vanished, but at least one of the houses and the Roman Catholic Church at right remain in other parts of the West Coast.
