Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill

A gruff-looking Winston Churchill on his way to 10 Downing Street in London, 1939. A month after taking over as Britain's Prime Minister in May 1940, Churchill delivered his now-famous 'This was their finest hour' speech to the House of Commons. Following the fall of France, Churchill steeled the British public for the fight ahead, announcing: '... the Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin.'
