Following the conquest of Mt Everest on 29 May 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary, accompanied by fellow climber George Lowe, arrived back in Auckland to a spontaneous welcome. After a further welcome in his home town, Papakura, Sir Edmund was interviewed by his brother Rex.
