A Grand Mother from Candy Elsmore on Vimeo.
This video tells the story of Mary Edith Aberhart, who was born in Grove Town, just out of Blenheim, in January 1872. She was the third of thirteen children born to John Henry Aberhart and Harriet Aberhart (née Eyles). She later married, becoming Mrs Mary Teague and had four children of her own. In 1893 she signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition, just a few months after turning 21 (the minimum signing age). She was one of 192 women from the Blenheim area who signed the Petition and was the only member of her family to do so – neither her mother, nor her older sister signed.
