Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

This entry is either signed by Christina Heron Clark or her daughter Christina Duncan Clark.

Christina/Christian Heron was born on 26 February 1821 in Fife, Scotland – the daughter of Alexander Heron & Christian Duncan.

She married Henry Clark, a carpenter, on 4 February 1844 in Edinburgh and they had a daughter about 1846. (See 92 Elizabeth L Tulloch)

The family emigrated to Otago in 1848 on the Blundell and settled in Dunedin and had a further four daughters.

In the mid 1850s they moved to Clarkesville where they took up farming and Henry continued to work as a carpenter.

Their daughter Christina Duncan Clark was born here in 1856 and this is where the suffrage petition was signed.

Christina snr. died at her home on 9 January 1903. Her obituary said she 'was naturally of a quiet and unobtrusive character, but was widely respected for her many sterling qualities.' Henry died in 1905, he is buried with Christina in the Fairfax Cemetery, Milton.

Christina Duncan Clark continued to live at Clarkesville after the death of her parents, she died on 7 August 1937 and is buried with her parents.

Her obituary said 'possessed of a lovable and cheerful disposition, with a reputation for abundant hospitality and charming personality, Miss Clark was greatly esteemed by all sections of the community. She was a staunch supporter of the Presbyterian Church and an active worker in her younger days. She was a keen lover of horticulture.'
