James McDonnell and Bridget Neville were married in Blenheim in 1880.
The birth certificae of their first child Mary (Mrs Nicholson) showed Mary was born at Springlands, Omaka on 28 November 1881 and that her father's birthplace was 'Quinn, County Clare, Ireland'.
Bridget Mc Donnell was my great grandmother. She immigrated to NZ in 1879 aboard the ship Opawa. She was Bridget Agnes Neville, subsequently marrying James Mc Donnell. Bridget and James immigrated together always intending to be married which they did so in Nelson, NZ. James worked at a flax mill in Waverley for a short time then moved on to Mangamahu. While in Waverley Bridget gave birth to John Mc Donnell, 1891, who sadly died at 5 weeks old and is buried there.
