She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1857 on the Maori and they settled in West Taieri.

Ann married James Black, a farmer, on 14 April 1871 at her home 'Cray', West Taieri and they had four children.

When Ann signed the suffrage petition they were farming at Owaka Flat.

Ann died at Outram on 22 August 1901 and James died at Seacliff in 1908, they are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
