Ann Dunlop Cumming was born on 9 October 1835 in Maybole, Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of William Cumming, a cotton hand loom weaver, and Agnes Austin.
She married John Ferguson, a cotton weaver, on 1 October 1858 in Maybole.
They had three children before moving to Glasgow about 1863. A further six children were born in Glasgow, two dying in infancy.
In 1880 Ann and John, with their four youngest children, emigrated to Otago on the Oamaru.
They settled in Dunedin and when Ann signed the suffrage petition they were living in Kaikorai Valley Road.
She died at her home in Rose St, Kaikorai on 28 April 1913, John died in 1920, they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
