Ann Lumsden was born on 29 July 1839 in Falkland, Fifeshire, Scotland – the daughter of Walter Lumsden, a mason, and Ann Finlay.

She married David Reid, a carpenter, on 26 May 1861 in Falkland - shortly their marriage they boarded the Pladda bound for Otago.

They had seven children two of who died in childhood.

When Ann signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Young St, St Kilda, Dunedin.

Ann died on 4 August 1905 and David died in 1925, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
