Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Annie Caroline Turner was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of Frederick Turner, a tinsmith, and Mary Eliza Edwards. (See 142 Mrs E Turner)

When Annie signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Leith St, Dunedin.

She married Lauchlan Robert McLean Shaw, a cabinetmaker & widower with four children, in 1893.

In 1895 Lauchlan was declared bankrupt, he had left the country for New South Wales under a false name leaving a heavily mortgaged house behind.

Annie appears to have joined him in New South Wales as they had three daughters from 1901 to 1907, one daughter died in infancy.

Lauchlan and his son John, working as builders and contractors, were declared bankrupt in 1926.

Annie died at her home “San Luis” in Ashfield on 4 October 1934 and Lauchlan died in 1938, they are buried in the Rookwood General Cemetery.
